On Flinders was a popular café operating in the heart of Manuka between 2016 and 2019.

Despite its strong customer presence, the business exhibited underperformance across several critical operational and strategic domains, including:

  • Brand identity

  • Staff competency

  • Menu presentation and pricing

  • Cost of goods sold (COGS)

  • Workforce rostering

In collaboration with the owner, a targeted improvement strategy was developed and implemented based on clearly defined priorities. The intervention process spanned six months, during which a robust operational foundation was established to support sustainable growth.

Results:

  • Average daily revenue increased from approximately AUD 800 to AUD 1,500

  • COGS were reduced from 45% to 28%

  • Wage costs decreased from 50% to 35%, inclusive of three staff sponsorships

In 2019, On Flinders was sold above the prevailing market valuation, providing empirical confirmation that the implemented business model was both effective and sustainable.
